1984 Poster-Landmark MONDALE & woman FERRARO run-1st RALLY-PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN
POSTER HEADLINED: "
HISTORIC NATIONAL CAMPAIGN KICK-OFF" — VERY RARE
The historical significance of this poster is museum level.
THE LANDMARK EVENT THAT BEGAN TO CHANGE EVERYTHING
FIRST WOMAN ON A MAJOR PARTY TICKET
POSTER SIZE: 14-1/2' x 11". It is awesome for framing!
PHOTO NOTE: Ebay's photo system erroneously turns highlights in the main poster into white dots on the candidates' faces. Those white dots are NOT on the poster at all. See other, detail photos that show there are NO DOTS on either candidates' photo.
The blue ink on the poster is vivid; the white area in the middle simply is from camera flash.
THIS ORIGINAL MONDALE FERRARO CAMPAIGN RALLY POSTER was for the seminal, kickoff event for one of the most important campaigns in US history. For the first time, a woman – Geraldine "Gerry" Ferraro – was running on a major political party ticket, as Democratic Party Vice Presidential nominee with Presidential nominee Walter Mondale. (Surprisingly, thirty-two years would pass before a woman, Hillary Clinton, won the top Presidential nominee slot on a major party ticket, in 2016.)
Mondale chose Ferraro as his VP running mate in July 1984 — making her the first woman ever to run on a major political party's nominated ticket for
U.S. President.
Mondale & Ferraro chose to hold their first-ever rally in an unlikely spot - the heart of the "New South," Jackson, Mississippi, on Aug. 1, 1984.
I attended that historical event and removed this poster from a fence around the Mississippi Governor's Mansion after the rally was over. I guarantee it is original and authentic!
The outdoor rally was in front of the Governor's Mansion in downtown Jackson, the state capital.
This official poster says "Paid for by Mondale/Ferraro, Inc." at the bottom.
MORE DOCUMENTATION OF THE HISTORIC EVENT: The news photo pictured with the item, an Associated Press photo NOT on the poster, was taken at that rally in Jackson, MS, during Ferraro's speech. (This photo also ran again worldwide with Ferraro's 2011 obituary.) The cutline said: In this Wednesday, Aug. 1, 1984 file picture, Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro gives the thumbs-up sign to a crowd of supporters in downtown Jackson, Miss. as Walter Mondale and Ferraro kicked off their 1984 campaign in this Southern city. Behind Ferraro are Mondale, state Rep. Robert Clark and former Gov. William Winter. The first woman to run for U.S. vice president on a major party ticket has died. Geraldine Ferraro was 75.
