Description
ORIGINAL CDV & AUTOGRAPH OF WILLIAM SEWARD , LINCOLN ‘ S SECRETARY OF STATE. Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS First Class.Up for auction is an original CDV & circa 1861Autograph on a small card of William Henry Seward (1801 - 1872 ) who was appointed Secretary of State by Abraham Lincoln in 1861 and completed the purchase of Alaska in 1867. He also served as Governor of New York , United States Senator and was a Presidential candidate in the election of 1860. He was badly wounded by a murder attempt on the night of Lincoln’s assassination April 14, 1865.
The William Seward CDV is backmarked E.& H.T. Anthony . 501 Broadway, New - York.The image of Seward is sharp , clear and the background has a very small soil on the right lower side of print. The image is trimmed on all sides measuring 3 3/4” long x 2 1/4” wide . There a remnant of a tax stamp on verso.
The William Seward autographed card measures 1 3/4” x 3 “ and in the autograph is very good condition with album residue on reverse from an old autograph collection.
Both the William Seward CDV and his Autographed card would make a fantastic addition to a collector of Lincoln memorabilia.
